ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGE

IDOM PRESENTS ONE OF ITS PROJECTS AT THE UN CONFERENCE

The United Nations Climate Change Conference 2017 took place in Bonn (Germany) in November 2017. This is an event of major international relevance in which leaders and political representatives from around the world analyze the current situation and future actions to be implemented.

The Basque Government presented the project “Vulnerability to Climate Change of the Natura 2000 Network in the Basque Country” as an example of good practices, developed by IDOM for the public agency of environment of the Basque Government (Ihobe).

In developing this project, IDOM is applying an innovative methodology, combining bioclimatic analysis techniques and mathematical modeling to assess the exposure and adaptation capacity of the Natura 2000 Network in the Basque Country to the Climate Change. The results of the current study show how the main natural habitats are going to be exposed in a critical way, foreseeing a probable regression of the distribution of the existing habitat surfaces.

The project was also presented at the 2nd International Colloquium on Climate Change in mountain areas, PYRADAPT 2017.
