Equipos Nucleares, S.A. (ENSA) was awarded a contract for the design, manufacture and assembly of the spent fuel storage racks at Olkiluoto Nuclear Power Plant in Finland. To enable the regulatory commission to license the racks , the accidental fall of a fuel element must be analysed and it has to be verified that the storage cells are not excessively deformed so that the fuel element loading and the unloading remains possible. The deformation must not exceed the necessary conditions to maintain the stored fuel bellow the criticality. In this context, ENSA asked IDOM to provide technical assistance to carry out the licensing calculations.
