The Republic of Croatia faces the challenge of improving the Toll Systems for its infrastructures, by adopting new technical and operational solutions that help improve the user experience and increase operational efficiency of a motorway network of more than 1,150 km, 78 toll plazas and around 50 million transactions per year.

IDOM has been contracted to analyze new solutions for the implementation of barrier-free toll systems in the country. Financed by the World Bank and led by the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure (MSTI), the main objective is the design of the strategic plan for the implementation of the new barrier-free toll system, defining the main guidelines for the development of the new electronic toll system, including recommendations on technology and the design of the final solution to be operated.

The design of the technology to be implemented considers the specific conditions of the country, such as seasonality, organizational structure and the motorway network.

In the second phase, and once the MSTI has made the decision of the solution to be developed, the solution selected for the implementation of the new electronic toll system will be defined in detail and then introduced on the main Croatian motorways.
