The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) of Paraguay contracted IDOM to undertake the feasibility study and, subsequently, the final design of a road of approximately 200 km that runs along the border of Brazil, the municipalities of Pedro Juan Caballero, Zanja Pytã, Captain Bado, Itanará e Ypejhú. Currently, this route is located on a dirt road with serious accessibility problems, especially in the rainy season.
The construction of this road, with a design speed of 100 km/h, will allow better accessibility to the hospital systems and facilitate the social integration of a greater number of school-going young people, generating new job opportunities for hundreds of people and promoting local economy, as travel times on any of the sections will be greatly reduced.
One of the priority issues in the development of the project has been to guarantee, according to international standards, road safety. Likewise, providing all the locations with the best communications has also been a basic condition: for this reason, each of the municipalities will be able to access it from two points, north and south.
Another important element of the project is the respect for the indigenous communities of New Virginia – Cerro 21 and Cristina Potrero, promoting improved development, allowing, at the same time, better access to schooling and medical services.
