Urban development for the old Mexico City airport

Mexico

The Mexico City airport urban development project is one of the most significant urban transformations in Latin America. Following the decision to build a new airport on the former Texcoco Lake site, Mexico City is releasing a vast area previously occupied by the International Airport, enabling a bold process of urban regeneration.

The proposal is to create an economic and urban pole with high standards of quality and eco-sustainability

IDOM has been commissioned to study and propose the development of the 780 hectares of newly available land, as well as to guide the use of the 10,000 hectares required for the new airport. The vision is to create a leading economic and urban hub, with high standards of quality and eco-sustainability, addressing the needs of a rapidly growing metropolis. The plan includes the construction of 52,000 homes and 182 hectares of green spaces, designed to house 172,000 people and enhance the area’s quality of life.

The impact of the Mexico City airport urban development is reflected in the expected creation of 60,000 jobs and the consolidation of Mexico’s capital as a leading global city in the 21st century. This is an integral, innovative, and sustainable project that lays the foundation for the future of the Valley of Mexico and stands as an international example of urban transformation.
