Extension of the passengers terminal at Hermosillo Airport
Mexico
The Hermosillo airport terminal extension project, located in the capital of Sonora state, marks a strategic move towards the modernization and growth of airport infrastructure in northwest Mexico. Hermosillo, recognized as one of the top five cities to live in the country, serves a population of around one million inhabitants within the city and its surrounding municipalities, just 270 km from the US border and 95 km from the Gulf of California.
270 km from the United States, serving a population of one million people
Responding to increasing demand and the region’s extreme climate, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) has selected IDOM to deliver the conceptual, basic, and executive designs for the Hermosillo airport terminal expansion. The project scope also includes the extension of the fire and rescue station (CREI) and a comprehensive renovation of the existing parking lot. The terminal expansion will add approximately 4,200 m² of new space, aimed at enhancing operational capacity, passenger comfort, and the building’s energy efficiency.
With a total investment of 7 million euros, the Hermosillo airport terminal expansion will boost connectivity and the quality of airport services in Sonora, supporting the region’s economic and social development. The project stands out for its focus on sustainability, adaptation to extreme local climate, and the integration of innovative design and functional solutions, establishing Hermosillo Airport as a key hub in the Pacific Mexican airport network.
