Design and implementation of the first Free Flow system on Spanish highways

IDOM has designed and implemented Spain’s first operational Free Flow system on national highways, specifically on the N-1 and A-15 routes in Guipuzkoa province, Basque Country. This groundbreaking project features three toll gantries and adheres to the requirements of European Directive 2006/38/EC. The tolling solution targets heavy vehicles over 3.5 tons, utilizing a distance-based charging model that eliminates the need for traditional toll booths.

Free Flow technology enables seamless and automatic toll collection through advanced systems such as Via-T, preregistered online payment, and kiosks, enhancing mobility and reducing travel times. This modernization marks a major milestone in infrastructure management, positioning both IDOM and Spain at the forefront of innovation in transport and sustainable mobility.
