IDOM audits and supports the renovation of ITS systems on Madeira’s VR1 highway in Portugal, enhancing safety, efficiency, and technological management in tunnels and open-air sections

Vialitoral, in line with its ongoing commitment to improving road safety on Madeira’s VR1 highway in Portugal, has launched a comprehensive project for the renovation of ITS systems across both open-air sections and tunnels. The scope of this modernization covers the upgrade of the video surveillance system, the installation of new driver information panels, the renewal of SOS posts, advanced traffic sensor systems, shadow toll systems, and the modernization of the communications network.

IDOM has taken charge of the technical audit of the project designed by FCC, as well as providing technical support throughout the renovation works. IDOM’s involvement ensures that all improvements are carried out according to the highest standards of quality and safety, guaranteeing the proper integration of ITS solutions and a significant boost in the control, management, and safety of Madeira’s road infrastructure.
