Rivercity Global Forum
Paola Moreno, Lina Flórez, and Marcela Vélez from the City, Territory, and Architecture team participated in the Rivercity Global Forum 2025. Live the River,” which took place from August 27 to 28. Held 10 years after the last forum, this event aimed to bring together mayors and experts from around the world who have transformed cities located near rivers. The forum provided a space for sharing experiences, case studies, and lessons learned, inspiring local governments, experts, and academics to transform their own cities.
During these two days, the topics were organized around four circuits:
- Cities and rivers in motion: challenges and opportunities, addressing issues such as the renaturalization of urban rivers with Nature-Based Solutions (NbS), land use planning around rivers (governance, climate change, and risk management), revitalization of river spaces and sustainable development, and innovation for river protection and recovery.
- Sustainable finance and technology: with discussions on sustainable finance for urban development and water management, Smart Water (technology for water project management), and leadership to transform cities.
- Rivers and cities: the perfect combination for competitiveness, where actions and strategies for the preservation of rivers and their biodiversity, river tourism, and local economic development were discussed, along with a roundtable discussion with mayors from Colombia.
- Rivers in motion and multimodal cities: Relating multimodal transport and territorial development, with the river as a transforming and structuring axis of urban mobility and an alternative for multimodal cities.
IDOM’s participation in the RiverCity Global Forum 2025 was an important opportunity to showcase its involvement in one of the most significant projects of Montería’s current administration: the Master Plan Project and designs for the Botanical Park.
IDOM shared its experience with Las Lagunas de Montería on issues such as territorial planning, climate change adaptation, and nature-based solutions (NBS). The forum brought together over 60 international authorities and experts and allowed IDOM to contribute a technical, multidisciplinary perspective. The forum also enabled IDOM to strengthen alliances with international organizations such as UN-Habitat, IDB, and CAF and contribute to the 2030 Agenda from a local, contextualized perspective.
