Mexico is taking a decisive step toward democratizing sustainable finance

In a context where sustainability has become a strategic focus of the financial market, it is necessary to strengthen the mechanisms that facilitate its inclusion. Within this framework, BIVA and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) are promoting strategic consulting through the Financing for Climate Action in Mexico (FINACC) program. This consulting aims to align regulatory frameworks, strengthen capacities, and develop innovative instruments that accelerate small- and medium-sized enterprises’ (SMEs) access to sustainable financing.

IDOM is supporting BIVA in establishing itself as a key player in promoting capital mobility towards sustainable activities by providing companies of all sizes with accessible and reliable instruments. IDOM is also strengthening BIVA’s institutional capacities by consolidating technical and strategic knowledge on regulated carbon markets and evaluating the financial impacts associated with the Emissions Trading System (ETS).

The consultancy is based on an in-depth analysis of the national context, from the evolution of the financial regulatory framework to the consolidation of key tools, such as Mexico’s Sustainable Taxonomy. It promotes strengthening SMEs’ access to sustainable financing by analyzing the market baseline, designing inclusive stock market instruments, and defining a roadmap to facilitate their effective incorporation into the financial ecosystem with sustainability criteria.

This collaboration between BIVA, GIZ, and IDOM is a significant step toward democratizing access to sustainable financing in Mexico. By strengthening capacities, aligning regulations, and promoting instruments tailored to SMEs, the project contributes to a more inclusive and competitive stock market committed to climate action.
