IDOM awarded the consulting contract for the technical structuring of the Boyacá Railway in Colombia

The Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional (FDN) has selected IDOM as the technical advisor to develop the technical prefeasibility of the Boyacá Railway, a strategic rail corridor of approximately 230 kilometers between La Caro and Belencito, prioritized in Colombia’s main transportation planning instruments.

The objective of this phase is to determine, based on rigorous technical analysis, the project’s viability and its optimal development conditions.

Over the course of eleven months, IDOM will analyze the existing information for the corridor, study the expected freight and passenger demand, and evaluate different alternatives for alignment, use, and track gauge. For the selected option, the team will carry out specialized studies in railway design, geotechnics, structures, and hydrology, as well as the preliminary design of stations, transfer hubs, and railway systems.

The contract incorporates the use of BIM tools under international standards, investment (CAPEX) and operating cost (OPEX) estimations, tariff analysis, risk assessment, and a cost–benefit analysis aligned with the National Railway Policy. In addition, the project will integrate a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) strategy to maximize its territorial and urban impact.

This award strengthens IDOM’s position as an global leader in the structuring of complex railway projects and reinforces its commitment to developing sustainable infrastructure that contributes to the modernization of Colombia’s transportation system.
