High-value agri‑food industry
Elian, an agri‑industrial company founded in Barcelona in 2021 and wholly owned by Viserion International, has held the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of its industrial facilities at the Álvarez de la Campa wharf in the Port of Barcelona. This milestone marks the official start of the second development phase of its plant for processing plant‑based proteins, representing a decisive step toward consolidating a sustainable, efficient industrial model aligned with Europe’s food‑sovereignty goals.
To achieve this, IDOM is leading the project as the provider of comprehensive EPCM (Engineering, Procurement & Construction Management) services, ensuring the highest standards of excellence, operational reliability, and strict control of schedule and cost.
The expansion represents an investment of more than €200 million and will enable Elian to increase its production capacity by over 100,000 tonnes per year, strengthening Barcelona’s position as one of Europe’s leading production hubs.
Construction of the new plant began in the last quarter of 2025, with commissioning scheduled for early 2028. The facility incorporates advanced industrial technologies designed to:
- improve traceability across the production process
- optimize energy efficiency
- reduce water consumption
- minimize carbon footprint
The project also integrates a fully innovative, hydrocarbon‑free production process aimed at delivering “clean label” end products, from the grain itself to the transformed proteins.
IDOM’s participation is essential to ensuring comprehensive, well‑coordinated execution with the highest technical standards. From detailed engineering to construction management, procurement, and supervision, IDOM contributes its extensive experience in complex industrial projects and its commitment to state‑of‑the‑art technological solutions and robust sustainability criteria.
Beyond the technical and strategic relevance of this expansion, the project also reflects a significant collective effort. The commitment, professionalism, and ability of the IDOM team to tackle complex challenges with rigor and enthusiasm are proving fundamental to advancing steadily toward the project’s goals and strengthening the value that IDOM brings to the agri‑food industry.
