IDOM designs the new GUA1 Data Center in Guadalajara: a strategic €1 billion project

Nostrum Data Centers unveiled the GUA1 Data Center in Guadalajara. This infrastructure, with a capacity of up to 40 MWe, will bolster the growth of Spain’s digital sector. IDOM, an internationally renowned engineering and architecture firm, was entrusted with the center’s comprehensive design.

The project is being developed in the El Ruiseñor Industrial Park, a strategic location near the Corredor del Henares with access to fiber optic highways and direct connections to Madrid, Zaragoza, and Barcelona. This location makes Guadalajara an ideal site for large technology operators, hyperscalers, and artificial intelligence companies.

The GUA1 will be TIER III certified and designed for maximum resilience, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability. The data center is being built using a waterless system that eliminates the need for water cooling, achieving a target PUE in the range of 1.1–1.2. Additionally, the GUA1 will integrate photovoltaic self-consumption, low-environmental-impact refrigerants, and a holistic design that minimizes emissions throughout the building’s life cycle.

With an estimated total investment of €1 billion, including civil works, technological equipment, critical systems, and servers, this project is one of the largest digital infrastructure developments in central Spain.

During the presentation, Mikel Lotina, IDOM’s Director of Data Centers, highlighted that “GUA1 is a project destined to become a benchmark for its efficiency, innovation, and sustainable approach.”

GUA1 reinforces IDOM’s position as a key player in designing and developing large data centers. IDOM contributes advanced solutions to Spain’s growing digital economy.
