HarshLab
Spain
The HarshLab floating laboratory allows new materials and developments for the offshore industry to be tested and trialed in real conditions.
“Europe’s largest floating laboratory, installed at BIMEP, where companies can test their materials and developments in a real marine environment.”
Measuring 8.5 meters in diameter by 7 meters in height, the laboratory has a usable deck area of 120 m², giving it a large testing capacity. Materials, components, and equipment can be tested while submerged or in the atmospheric zone (above water), the splash zone (where waves break), or on the seabed itself at depths of up to 65 meters. A dynamic cable connects HarshLab to the BiMEP network, allowing equipment to be tested in operation and facilitating the handling of loads via the main deck crane. This cable also enables the collection and subsequent analysis of data.
