EuropeWave
Europe
EuropeWave is a Pre-Commercial public procurement initiative co-funded by the EU’s H2020 programme, Wave Energy Scotland (WES), and the Basque Energy Agency (EVE).
IDOM was one of three companies selected for the third phase of EuropeWave, whose objective is for each company to install and operate one WEC (wave energy converter), two at BiMEP and one at EMEC.
“IDOM’s main effort has focused on a new power train and its control system, with the aim of maximizing the energy generated while maintaining reliability.”
The IDOM device is the MARMOK-A-5, a point absorber that uses Oscillating Water Column (OWC) technology. It has been in operation at BiMEP for three years, where it has demonstrated its viability and robustness.
Through the EuropeWave project, IDOM has applied the knowledge gained from previous testing campaigns to create an innovative design. The main focus has been on a new turbine and its control system to maximize energy generation while maintaining reliability, robustness, and ease of maintenance.
