IDOM analyzes the impact of the new European Wastewater Directive in Seville

IDOM participated in the Technical Conference on Wastewater Treatment organized by Aguasresiduales in Seville. The event brought together more than 140 professionals from the Regional Government of Andalusia and the wastewater treatment sector.

In this context, Carmen González Moreno presented a technical overview of the challenges associated with the new European Directive 2024/3019, a regulation that redefines wastewater treatment in Europe.

During the session, some of the key changes that will shape the sector in the coming years were addressed, such as the expansion of the scope of application, the incorporation of advanced treatments for emerging pollutants, the integrated planning of wastewater and stormwater, and the goals of energy neutrality and the circular economy in wastewater treatment plants.

The impact will be particularly significant in Andalusia, which accounts for nearly 16% of the national wastewater treatment load and where more than 80 facilities will need to adapt to the new European requirements for tertiary and quaternary treatment.

The participation of IDOM served to highlight the firm’s expertise in the full water cycle and its ability to provide support to public authorities in the transition toward more sustainable and resilient wastewater management models.
