IDOM contributes to the transformation of Faro Santander, a new cultural space open to the city

The historic Pereda Building is entering the final stages of its transformation into Faro Santander, the new cultural venue promoted by the Santander Foundation and designed by David Chipperfield Architects. IDOM has been involved in the project, providing Construction Supervision, developing the Detailed Design, and leading the BREEAM certification process.

The intervention restores one of Santander’s most iconic buildings, giving it new cultural uses and reopening it to the public. The project combines the preservation of its heritage features with innovative architectural and engineering solutions, including the reinterpretation of the historic central arch as the building’s organising element, an exposed concrete helical staircase, and advanced heating and cooling systems based on geothermal energy and thermally activated building structures.

The development has achieved an Outstanding BREEAM certification with a score of 92.96%, the highest ever awarded to a museum or cultural centre to date, recognising the building’s exceptional environmental and energy performance.

El Diario Montañés reported the completion of the project as follows
