Port of Barcelona awards IDOM the contract to design onshore infrastructure for southern expansion

The Port of Barcelona awarded IDOM the contract to design the onshore infrastructure for the Southern Redevelopment project. This project aims to facilitate the development of new terminals in the area surrounding the Jaume I, Catalunya, and Prat Nord docks. The project will define the necessary connections and services to support the area’s future growth.

IDOM will design new road accesses, rail infrastructure and associated terminals, logistics area layouts, road-and-rail structures, and service networks and facilities. This includes OPS (Onshore Power Supply) systems, which will provide electricity to docked ships.

A primary challenge will be integrating the road and rail systems in a coordinated manner while ensuring compatibility with current port operations and planned future developments. To this end, the project will bring together specialists from various disciplines, including ports, railways, roads, structures, geotechnical engineering, mobility, energy, and services.

Through this initiative, IDOM will help define the infrastructure that will support the growth of one of the Mediterranean’s leading logistics hubs.
