Simera Sense and IDOM join forces to develop next-generation Earth observation optical system
Thousands of new Earth observation satellites are expected to enter orbit in the coming decade, creating unprecedented demand for advanced imaging technologies. In response to this rapidly expanding market, IDOM and Simera Sense have formed a strategic partnership to develop and produce the optical system for the MultiScape350™, a next-generation very high-resolution Earth observation imager.
The collaboration combines Simera Sense’s expertise in spaceborne imaging payloads with IDOM’s capabilities in advanced optical design, opto-mechanical engineering, manufacturing and qualification of high-performance space optical systems. Under the agreement, IDOM will lead the development and production of the Optical Front End (OFE), while Simera Sense will provide the sensor subsystem, electronics, thermal management, calibration approach, satellite interface and overall payload integration architecture.
The new system is being developed to meet growing demand for high-resolution Earth observation data from commercial, civil and government users worldwide. According to industry forecasts, more than 6,500 Earth observation satellites are expected to be launched by 2035, driving demand for increasingly capable imaging systems.
The MultiScape350 programme aims to deliver very high-resolution imaging while maintaining compatibility with the size, weight and power constraints of modern satellite platforms.
