Plan before building: Yopougon shapes the future of Its mobility
The Integrated Mobility Study for Yopougon, recently presented in Abidjan, will help analyse and define future public transport projects in one of Greater Abidjan’s main urban centres. Funded through the Fund for the Internationalization of Enterprises (FIEM), the initiative brought together representatives from the Autorité de la Mobilité Urbaine dans le Grand Abidjan (AMUGA) and key stakeholders involved in the development of the city’s public transport network.
The meeting provided an opportunity to share the study’s objectives and approach and to establish a common vision regarding the district’s mobility challenges. This initiative is taking place during a period of transformation for public transportation in Greater Abidjan, with major metro and bus rapid transit (BRT) projects underway. In this context, the study will ensure that future investments and initiatives are integrated coherently into the existing and planned mobility network.
IDOM has been involved since the initiative’s early stages, collaborating with AMUGA to define the project and secure funding. Throughout the project, the team will leverage its international expertise in mobility planning to analyze demand, evaluate alternatives, and define actions to improve accessibility and the quality of public transportation in Yopougon.
The study’s results will inform decision-making by the relevant authorities and guide future mobility investments. Consequently, Yopougon will have a roadmap to facilitate the development of transportation solutions tailored to the needs of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the Ivory Coast.
