IDOM engineering recognized with MUSE Design Award for Ras Tanura wastewater treatment plant
IDOM has participated in the development of the detailed engineering of a new industrial wastewater treatment plant (IWWTP) for Ras Tanura Refinery for SEPCOIII, the main EPC contractor and IDOM’s client, aimed at improving effluent management and promoting water reuse within the refinery complex.
The facility, designed with a treatment capacity of 20,000 m³/day, incorporates advanced processes such as biological treatment, filtration, and reverse osmosis to meet the discharge requirements.
During the detailed engineering phase, IDOM developed optimization-oriented design solutions, contributing to more efficient use of materials and improving the overall project efficiency.
The project has received international recognition with a Silver award at the 2026 MUSE Design Awards, in the Architectural Design – Energy Building category.
The award-winning design combines advanced wastewater treatment with a strong focus on water reuse and sustainability. Following treatment, the water is separated into two streams: compliant wastewater for discharge in accordance with environmental regulations and reclaimed water that is returned to the Ras Tanura Refinery for reuse.
The project also incorporates recyclable metals, odor-control measures and stormwater-wastewater separation, helping to reduce resource consumption and environmental impact while supporting a more circular approach to industrial water management.
