Peru is taking significant steps towards sustainable sanitation. The PTAR Chincha concession was signed with IDOM supervision.
On July 16, 2025, Peru’s Government Palace witnessed a significant moment in the country’s sustainable development journey with the signing of the concession contract for the PTAR Chincha wastewater treatment project. In attendance were the President of the Republic, the Ministers of Economy and Finance, and Housing, Construction, and Sanitation; and the Executive Director of Proinversión. Gabriel Chiang, an IDOM colleague, participated as part of the team that has supported this project since its inception.
This contract will directly benefit over 345,000 people and is part of Proinversión’s ambitious portfolio of six treatment plants, supported by the IDB. IDOM plays a key role in all of them as an integral supervisor of the structuring process, ensuring that each contract meets the highest international standards and responds to the needs of the public sector and the expectations of the private investor. To achieve this, IDOM has deployed a multidisciplinary team led by strategy and operations consultants, as well as specialists in water, the environment, and other technical disciplines. This team worked closely with the IDB and Proinversión to provide continuous support until the financial closure and signing of the six projects were achieved.
The PTAR Chincha concession signing is an achievement in itself and marks the beginning of advances aimed at reducing the sanitation deficit in various regions of the country. The second plant in this portfolio is preparing to enter the market, thus consolidating a public-private collaboration model committed to community well-being and environmental sustainability.
