Claro Arena receives a sustainability award at the 2025 Stadium Business Awards
The Claro Arena renovation project, formerly the Universidad Católica stadium, won the Sustainability Delivered Award The Stadium Business Design & Development Awards 2025, one of the most prestigious international awards in sports venue design and development.
The award recognizes IDOM’s dedication to sustainability and innovation in sports architecture. Javier Dávila, our colleague, collected the award on behalf of the team at the December 10 gala held at Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester.
Located in Santiago, Chile, Claro Arena has been transformed into a technologically advanced, multipurpose, and environmentally friendly stadium. The design preserves the original structure and adds a light and permeable exterior that provides sun protection, natural ventilation, and acoustic control.
The jury valued the application of the principles of reduction, reuse, and recycling, as well as the commitment to using local materials, highly. The project incorporates 1,600 cubic meters of Chilean wood, which can capture more than 1,500 tons of CO₂, thereby reducing the project’s carbon footprint and generating a positive impact on the local economy. Additionally, collaborating with the national industry enabled the development of innovative processes, such as lamination and programmed cutting, amidst a global supply crisis.
