IDOM completes Phase 1 of the Valle del Cauca intermunicipal rail system
Phase 1 of Contract 48/2021, developed by IDOM for the National Development Finance Agency (FDN), has officially been completed, and all deliverables have been approved. This phase centered on conducting feasibility studies and designing the Valle del Cauca inter-municipal rail system in the corridor between Cali Central Station and the municipality of Jamundí. The technical, social, property, environmental, and operational information necessary to evaluate the project’s viability was consolidated during its execution.
The work culminated in a comprehensive set of 28 technical products, including a demand study, topographic surveys, geotechnical engineering, railway and road geometric design, structures, conceptual station design, railway systems, rolling stock definition, investment and operating cost definitions, an urban-environmental analysis, and preliminary BIM modeling. This package provides a solid, multidisciplinary vision of the corridor and allows one to understand the challenges, opportunities, and requirements for moving forward to subsequent stages.
The results of this phase are currently being used in the technical structuring process, which is in its final stages. With this robust technical foundation, the nation and local entities are expected to obtain the necessary endorsements and approvals to initiate the bidding process. This will enable the next step toward implementing the system, bringing the region closer to achieving the shared goal of restoring rail service and transforming mobility in Valle del Cauca.
