IDOM highlights Frank Gehry’s legacy in an article by the President, Luis Rodríguez
Luís Rodríguez Llopis, President of IDOM, has written an opinion piece entitled ‘Gehry: the genius who broke all the rules‘, which was recently published in El Correo and is now available on the IDOM website. In the article, Mr. Llopis revisits one of the most iconic milestones in modern engineering and architecture: the construction of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.
The article pays tribute to the project that transformed the city of Bilbao and the global conception of contemporary architecture, and provides a unique insight into the creative and technological process behind it. Rodríguez Llopis recounts his personal experience of leading the IDOM team responsible for adapting Frank Gehry’s original design to local technical, economic and construction requirements.
“The Guggenheim Museum reflects Frank Gehry’s innovative character, not only in its bold forms, but also in the technology that made its construction possible.”
Far from the usual clichés about so-called ‘starchitects’, IDOM’s president emphasizes the humility, openness and collaborative spirit Gehry displayed at every stage of the project, highlighting his ability to transform technical challenges into creative opportunities.
The article reviews in detail how one of the most iconic buildings of the twentieth century came to life and highlights the importance of teamwork and integrating engineers and architects in complex, large-scale projects. Rodríguez Llopis’s reflections encourage us to reconsider the relationship between design and construction, and to recognize the cultural, social and economic impact a building can have on its surroundings.
This publication reaffirms IDOM’s commitment to disseminating knowledge, innovation and professional excellence. It offers a privileged perspective on a project that marked a turning point in architecture and the company’s history.
