IDOM is designing the new facilities for the DART+ project in Ireland

Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) has announced the extension of DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit)services to Kilcock, County Kildare, alongside the launch of a public consultation on the updated location of the new DART+ Depot. The initiative forms part of Ireland’s DART+ Programme, which aims to significantly expand and electrify the rail network across the Greater Dublin Area, increasing capacity and encouraging more sustainable travel. The announcement was made alongside Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien and Irish Rail CEO Mary Considine, who highlighted the project’s importance for the region.IDOM was responsible for the preliminary design of the new DART+ station and depot at Kilcock, a strategic facility that will play a central role in supporting the expanded DART fleet. The updated depot location west of Kilcock will allow electrification to extend beyond Maynooth and enable high‑frequency DART services, with infrastructure designed to support trains operating at peak frequencies of up to every 10 minutes.

The proposed depot will include stabling and maintenance facilities for up to 750 DART carriages, along with operational buildings, testing infrastructure and staff amenities. Once operational, it will be a critical asset in ensuring the reliability and long‑term performance of DART services.

IDOM will continue its involvement in the project by providing technical support and advice during the public consultation phase on the updated depot location. Following the successful completion of this process, IDOM is expected to progress to the detailed design stage, further contributing to the delivery of a major piece of transport infrastructure that will improve connectivity, capacity and sustainability across the region.
