IDOM is designing urban ITS systems for six Peruvian cities

IDOM is strengthening its presence in the Peruvian market by developing urban Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Currently, we are developing the conceptual designs for traffic light and electronic enforcement systems in six of the country’s most densely populated cities: Arequipa, Trujillo, Cusco, Piura, Chiclayo, and Huamanga.

Since April of this year, IDOM has been providing technical assistance to the World Bank and PROMOVILIDAD, a unit of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) that is responsible for the National Sustainable Urban Transport Program, in preparing profile studies for intelligent systems that will be integrated into future traffic control centers.

The objective of the project is clear: to improve the efficiency of urban traffic, increase road safety, and promote more sustainable mobility. IDOM’s role is strategic; we are preparing profile studies to be presented to the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) during the pre-investment phase. The technical, economic, social, and environmental feasibility of ITS systems will be analyzed at this stage, which is a fundamental step for their financing and implementation in the selected cities.

IDOM has consolidated its experience in Peru through the execution of four key projects in recent years. These projects have ranged from designing traffic light systems and defining traffic light protocols in Lima to updating the minimum technical criteria for implementing traffic lights in Lima Province. Throughout these projects, IDOM has collaborated with the World Bank.

This continuity reflects IDOM’s sustained growth in Peru’s urban ITS sector and strengthens our relationship based on technical excellence and mutual trust. Our consistent involvement in strategic projects showcases IDOM’s capacity to address intricate challenges in urban traffic management and its dedication to pioneering and eco-friendly solutions. This commitment not only propels the modernization of the sector but also enhances the quality of life for urban dwellers.
