IDOM is developing the Las Palmas Reservoir project in Chile

The Las Palmas Reservoir project is being developed by IDOM’s Water team. This strategic infrastructure is designed to improve the availability of water for agricultural irrigation and supply in the Petorca River basin in the Valparaiso region of Chile. This area is one of the most affected by water scarcity.

Commissioned by the CHEC Embalse Las Palmas Concession Company, the project includes the design of a 60-metre-high dam with a capacity of 30 hm³, together with the associated hydraulic infrastructure. As part of the project, IDOM is analysing different types of rockfill dams to select the technical solution best suited to the site’s conditions.

The contract covers the design of the dam, spillway and water intake, conveyance and distribution systems for irrigation and human consumption, as well as access roads, operating roads and various other works to integrate the project into the local area. The project also incorporates solutions aimed at improving the system’s hydraulic efficiency, reducing losses and optimising resource management.

All work is carried out using BIM methodology, ensuring comprehensive design coordination and high quality standards. Launched in April 2025 and expected to last two years, the Las Palmas Reservoir is a milestone for IDOM, as it is the first large dam project developed by its Water team in Chile, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable and resilient water management.
