IDOM participates in the modernization of Line 1 of the Santiago Metro

Santiago Metro has awarded IDOM the contract for the detailed design and construction supervision of platform door installations in the remaining 15 stations on Line 1, building on the work already completed since 2023.

This new contract will complete the implementation of the platform door system in all 27 stations on Line 1, raising safety and reliability standards to the levels already present on Lines 3 and 6. IDOM also participated in the comprehensive supervision of these systems.

The two organizations began collaborating in 2023 with the conceptual design for the entire Line 1, the basic engineering for its 27 stations, and the detailed engineering and construction supervision for the first 12 stations, corresponding to the San Pablo–Pajaritos and Las Rejas–La Moneda sections.

The new contract, awarded in January 2026, covers the detailed engineering and supervision of installing platform doors at the stations between Universidad de Chile and Los Dominicos. This completes the deployment of platform doors on the busiest line in the network.

The installation will be carried out while the line is in operation. Work will be concentrated during nighttime hours, and specific measures will be applied to minimize the impact on passengers.

For IDOM, this award reinforces its comprehensive approach combining railway systems, energy, telecommunications, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP), and architecture, supported by Building Information Modeling (BIM), Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS), and operational integration. This will all be carried out under a brownfield work scheme in close coordination with the metro’s daily operations.

With the project’s continuity, best practices can be scaled, integration risks can be reduced, and the progressive entry into service of solutions can be accelerated. The project will have a clear focus on passenger safety and the operational robustness of the system.
