IDOM Social Group collaborates with Recicla+ to improve waste management in the Dominican Republic
At IDOM Social Group, we continue to support social initiatives that generate real and lasting impact in the communities where they operate. One of these initiatives is Recicla +, a recyclable‑waste management project carried out in Sabana Yegua, in the province of Azúa (Dominican Republic).
Recicla + was created in response to a very specific environmental and social challenge: the accumulation of waste in streets, riverbeds, and informal dumps that pollute the land, rivers, and seas. In the face of this reality, the project promotes a comprehensive approach based on the collection and separation of plastics, together with environmental education, actively involving the local community.
Since May 2022, Recicla + has been part of the programs led by Nature Power Foundation, an organization with which IDOM Social Group collaborates through corporate volunteering. Our colleagues Amaia García‑Tabar and Carlota Comellas Velasco (ISG volunteers) participate actively in the project and have supported its development at different stages.
Thanks to the collaboration between organizations and the donation provided by IDOM, the project has taken an important step forward by incorporating recycling technology that makes it possible to transform part of the recovered plastic into useful objects for the community, such as tables, chairs, and benches. In this way, the collective effort is returned directly to the local environment in the form of tangible improvements.
After more than five years of work, Recicla+ demonstrates that when education, technology, and community commitment come together, the impact goes far beyond recycling. The project not only helps reduce pollution but also strengthens environmental awareness, civic participation, and the community’s capacity to continue growing.
With this initiative we reaffirm our commitment to actions that generate social and environmental value, building alliances that make it possible to transform realities and move towards more sustainable development.
