Master plan for water supply and sanitation in Tbilisi and Rustavi, Georgia
IDOM has successfully completed the study and development of the Master Plan for supply and sanitation for Georgian Water and Power in the cities of Tbilisi and Rustavi, a key project for the planning and improvement of water infrastructures in the Georgian capital. This plan aims to ensure the efficient supply of drinking water and proper wastewater management over the next 25 years.
The network rehabilitation project envisages a significant renovation of the existing infrastructure, aiming to modernize 53% of the total network within 25 years. This involves the renewal of 1,931 km of pipelines, with an annual renewal rate of 2.1%. To achieve this, 113 pipeline rehabilitation actions will be carried out, of which 85 will focus specifically on improving the conduction system. These actions will be distributed in 209 different locations.
The plan was developed by analyzing the management of the city’s water network and infrastructure, evaluating both the current performance of the network and its capacity to meet future demand.
This analysis included the development of a hydraulic model representing the actual operating conditions of the 4,134 kilometers of drinking water network in both cities. Existing problems were identified both in the current situation and in the Master Plan horizon, which served as a starting point for proposing alternatives and defining the main actions required to meet future and current needs. A cost study was carried out and the investment plan was formulated, prioritizing the necessary investments.
This Master Plan is a crucial roadmap for the sustainable development of Tbilisi, strengthening its supply and sanitation infrastructure and ensuring the quality of life of its current and future inhabitants.
