The Lagunas de Monteria Botanical Park
The Lagunas de Montería Botanical Park is a large public space that combines environmental, recreational, educational, and cultural infrastructure. Following the rehabilitation of the old oxidation ponds, the park will feature trails, green spaces, and amenities for the enjoyment of the entire community. The park’s design incorporates water management strategies, climate resilience, and biodiversity conservation, while creating active areas for sports, recreation, and community gatherings.
The park strikes a balance between protecting local ecosystems and creating accessible, inclusive spaces. It offers a safe, attractive, and educational environment. Its programmatic capsule configuration allows for flexible operation, with areas designated for events, children’s playgrounds, sports, and a botanical garden featuring a butterfly garden.
Environmentally, the project promotes the ecological recovery of the lagoons by integrating them into the landscape as water buffer zones and habitats for local and migratory birds. The park is envisioned as a catalyst for social and economic development, stimulating the local economy by activating commercial kiosks, providing spaces for entrepreneurs, and offering environmental education programs that foster a stronger community bond with the natural environment.
