Analyses of the dynamic effects on the beam dump in the IFMIF accelerator

Spain

IFMIF, the International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility, is an accelerator-based neutron source that will use Li(d,xn) reactions to produce a neutron flux with a broad peak at 14MeV, corresponding to the conditions of the deuterium-tritium reactions in a fusion power plant.

IFMIF is designed to test fusion materials. As the IFMIF-EVEDA accelerator does not have a target, a beam dump is required to stop it during the commissioning of the accelerator.

In this context, IDOM performed transient and dynamic analyses of the current beam dump design to consider two potential sources of damage.
