Analyses of Dynamic Effects on the Beam Dump in the IFMIF Accelerator
Spain
IFMIF, the International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility, is an accelerator-based neutron source that will use Li(d,xn) reactions to generate a flux of neutrons with a broad peak at 14MeV equivalent to the conditions of the Deuterium-Tritium reactions in a fusion power plant. IFMIF is conceived for fusion materials testing. Since no target is foreseen for the IFMIF-EVEDA accelerator, a beam dump is required to stop it during commissioning accelerator tests. In this context, IDOM conducted transient and dynamic analyses of the current beam dump design to account for two potential sources of damage.
