Improvement of Medellin Sewage System
Colombia
The improvement of Medellín’s sewer system is essential to address the challenges of a rapidly growing city with a highly saturated network. In this context, IDOM has conducted a comprehensive hydraulic analysis of the sewer network in two key areas of the city. Based on this study, IDOM prepared an in-depth diagnosis that identified the main deficiencies and limitations of the existing system, such as bottlenecks, insufficient flow capacity, and critical maintenance points.
Drawing from these findings, IDOM proposed several improvement alternatives aimed at optimizing hydraulic efficiency, durability, and the sustainability of the network. Suggested actions include rehabilitating critical sections, incorporating new technologies and materials, and implementing strategies to reduce environmental impact and enhance service quality for Medellín’s residents. The current situation analysis carried out by IDOM has served as the foundation for ensuring a modern, resilient, and future-ready sanitation system for the city.
