Industrial Waste Management and Contaminated Soil Solutions for Active Plants: Sustainable Approaches in Spain

Industrial waste management is essential to ensure sustainable operations in active industrial plants. Since 2023, IDOM’s Sustainable Soil Management division has led expansion projects at a production plant in Spain, implementing advanced strategies for industrial waste management and contaminated soil remediation. These initiatives include waste inventory and supervision, excavation planning and technical assistance, and thorough material characterization, guaranteeing environmental compliance and operational efficiency.

IDOM’s work on the construction projects has required expertise in the following areas:

  • Waste inventories and waste management supervision. This work involves preparing a report that accounts for and classifies the waste stored in a disused building. After the waste is managed, follow-up and control are performed to ensure the inventoried elements are managed correctly.
  • We provide excavation plans and technical assistance for excavations. These plans include characterizing the materials to be excavated by taking samples for analysis to determine their future management or reuse. During the excavation, supervision of the work is performed to ensure the materials are managed or reused correctly.
  • Waste characterization sheets are prepared by sampling and analyzing materials for subsequent characterization.

Additionally, this project included demolition and technical assistance for the demolition.
