Mayan Train | Section 1
Mexico
The Mayan Train project involves implementing a new rail transportation service that will connect the major cities and tourist destinations on the Yucatán Peninsula.
Section 1 of the Mayan Train runs from Palenque to Escárcega, passing through the states of Chiapas, Tabasco, and Campeche. The 226-kilometer section will provide passenger and cargo service. This section has four stations (Palenque, Boca del Cerro, El Triunfo, and Escárcega) and two stops (Tenosique and Candelaria). There is also a maintenance base in Tenosique.
The goal is to promote the social, cultural, and economic development of the Yucatán Peninsula.
IDOM has participated in geology and geotechnical studies, as well as layout, earthworks, track superstructure, and structures, including the bridges over the Chacamax and San Pedro rivers. IDOM has also participated in the design of the maintenance base in Tenosique and the civil works facilities, as well as RAM management, safety, and interface management.
Take a tour to explore impressive Mayan ruins and tropical rainforests, and to discover the region’s rich history and culture.
Along the Mayan Train route, several findings have been discovered that the INAH (National Institute of Anthropology and History) considers to be of great historical value. These findings have led to the consideration of different solutions, such as variations in the route and containment solutions, to avoid affecting them.
It is worth mentioning the use of liming, to stabliize unsuitable soils along the route. This optimizes the use of materials and reduces the required volume of landfill.
