IDOM plays a key role as design coordinator in the Ferrocarril Central Uruguay project, Montevideo – Paso de los Toros, demonstrating its expertise in railway engineering and BIM technology.
The Ferrocarril Central Uruguay IDOM project represents the largest infrastructure investment in the country’s history, with €1 billion allocated for the refurbishment and upgrade of 270 km of railway track, 29 km of double track, and the construction of 17 new crossing stations. The new freight railway is designed to support 22.5 tons per axle and features a clear gauge for future electrification.
IDOM leads the detailed engineering works, covering both preliminary design and executive project development, ensuring maximum efficiency and quality throughout all phases. The Grupo Vía Central consortium, composed of Sacyr (40%), Saceem (27%), NGE (27%) and Berkes (6%), is responsible for the design, construction, financing, upgrade and maintenance of the Montevideo – Paso de los Toros Central Railway Line.
