Navarra Canal

Spain

The Navarra Canal is a key hydraulic infrastructure that guarantees the water supply for both irrigation and human consumption, promoting sustainability and efficient water use across the region. Thanks to the Navarra Canal, 57,000 new hectares are enabled for irrigation, 16,000 existing hectares are consolidated, and potable water supply is ensured for several towns, directly supporting agricultural development, food security, and the well-being of rural and urban populations in Navarra.

Large hydraulic works can put the resource into service where it is really needed

This ambitious project was designed to strike a balance between the economic profitability of agriculture and the preservation of the natural environment, ensuring the viability of crops and reliable access to water even during periods of drought. The main channel has a design flow of 45 m³/s, allowing the efficient transport of large volumes of water along the canal’s 180 km length, crossing the region of Navarra from north to south.

IDOM’s participation in several sections of the Navarra Canal has been fundamental in ensuring technical quality and innovation throughout the project, incorporating advanced solutions for water management and distribution. The project also integrates environmental monitoring and control systems to minimize ecological impact and ensure compatibility with local biodiversity. In this way, the Navarra Canal stands as a model of sustainable infrastructure, capable of meeting the present and future challenges of the agricultural and water supply sectors in the region.
