Project Management for SAP Implementation
Spain
When implementing IT systems, integration between all components is particularly important, and in the case of this implementation, it is especially relevant because bringing together different IT systems, technologies, applications and software so that they function as a single cohesive system is no easy task.
In line with this, we have taken this maxim into account when carrying out the various implementation projects for our client in the aeronautical sector, as we first provided a project management office (PMO) for the execution of the implementation project, as well as for the execution of successive rollouts in different countries. In this process, we not only managed the part concerning SAP S/4HANA, but also coordinated the activities in those systems that had to be integrated with S/4HANA.
All activities related to ERP are carried out on the company’s existing S/4HANA system. Over time, and after undertaking the PMO during the implementation of the various modules in the S/4HANA implementation, IDOM participates in the subsequent activities carried out to improve the existing installation:
- Rollout at new plant in the United Kingdom: IDOM is leading the expansion of the Group’s processes and systems to a new plant in the United Kingdom. This involves adapting and implementing the S/4HANA modules at this location. From planning to execution, IDOM ensures a smooth and efficient transition.
- Implementation at the plant in Mexico: At the plant in Mexico, IDOM plays a crucial role in the adoption of S/4HANA. The modules involved include Projects, Purchasing, Warehouse Management, Quality, Production, Sales, Finance and Cost Management. The PMO oversees each stage, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and process optimisation.
- Information protection: IDOM establishes an action plan to safeguard information. This involves complying with industry-specific regulations and protocols. Security policies are defined, access control measures are implemented, and sensitive data is protected.
- Physical and digital segregation measures: To ensure security and efficiency, IDOM implements segregation measures. In the physical environment, segregated areas are established and access is controlled. In the digital environment, PLM, ERP, MES and other applications are managed to prevent unwanted interference.
- Development of internal procedures: IDOM creates internal procedures tailored to different areas, such as design, engineering and manufacturing. These procedures optimise collaboration, quality and efficiency throughout the organisation.
- PMO for rollouts at other plants in the group: IDOM’s PMO coordinates the expansion of S/4HANA to other plants in the group. This includes adapting processes, training staff and supervising implementation. Effective communication and risk management are essential in this process.
- Upgrading functionalities between different versions of S/4HANA to ensure maintenance of the installation by SAP
Over time, AMS activities are also carried out, controlling the life of the applications and planning, prioritising and managing all evolutionary maintenance tasks and complying with the service levels required and agreed with the company for corrective maintenance.
In summary, IDOM not only implements technology, but also strategically leads digital transformation across all locations. The combination of PMO, data protection and procedure development, as well as ensuring integration between systems, ensures long-term success.
