Modelling the sanitation networks in the Aburrá Valley
Colombia
The sanitation network modeling project in Aburrá Valley, led by IDOM for Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM), marks a key technological advancement in Colombia. By modeling over 1,000 km of networks using both commercial solutions and proprietary applications, the project enables comprehensive evaluation of existing infrastructure and identification of areas for improvement. This modeling tool supports optimization of the sewer system, strategic investment planning, and enhanced customer service for Medellín and its metropolitan area.
Empresas Publicas de Medellín (EPM) is responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the sanitation networks of the City of Medellín and its metropolitan area. Within an ambitious plan to improve the collection system, it is generating hydraulic models of the existing network.
Using digital models allows us to know and evaluate the operations of the existing infrastructure, and to evaluate improvement actions
They are looking for a tool for the decision-making process for the planning of future investments, the optimization of the sewage system and the timely attention of customers.
IDOM has taken on the technological challenge of modelling more than 1,000 km of networks, using commercial solutions and in-house developed applications, which make it possible to know the current operation and identify gaps and future problems.
