Reversible Hydroelectric Scheme on the Mondego River: Girabolhos and Bogueira Power Plants (385 MW) in Portugal
Portugal
The reversible hydroelectric scheme on Portugal’s Mondego River, by ENDESA, comprises the construction of the Girabolhos and Bogueira reservoirs, with a total installed capacity of 385 MW. This reversible hydroelectric development features a main 355 MW power plant with Francis pump-turbines at the dam and a conventional 29.5 MW facility at the lower reservoir, maximizing water resource utilization and renewable energy generation.
Reversible hydroelectric exploitation in Portugal
The main reversible installation (turbine pump) at the foot of the dam will have 335 MW of total installed power (2 Francis turbines).
A conventional installation uses the jump from the equalizing reservoir, with 29.50 MW of total power (2 Francis turbines).
