Alierta technology district in Aragon
Spain
The new Alierta Technology District in Aragon (DAT) is emerging as a benchmark for innovation, sustainability and collaboration in southern Europe. Located on the Ebro River university campus in Zaragoza, between the Actur and Juslibol neighborhoods, this space will occupy 79 hectares, of which 49 will be new development and 30 will correspond to existing infrastructure, such as University of Zaragoza buildings and research centers such as ITA, CSIC and CEEI.
The district will be developed in a privileged natural environment, next to the Ebro River and surrounded by vegetation, making it a true green lung for the city. This landscape approach is no coincidence: the project has been conceived under criteria of urban sustainability, with large pedestrian areas, green spaces, sustainable mobility and architecture integrated with the natural environment.
The Alierta Technology District in Aragon will be an ecosystem where universities, research centers, SMEs, startups and large technology companies, both national and international, will coexist. In addition, it will incorporate innovative residential spaces such as cohousing and hospitality, sports areas and cultural spaces, fostering a lively and dynamic community.
The master plan, prepared by IDOM, contemplates a phased development until 2029, when it is expected to be fully operational. Work will begin in 2027, following the approval of the necessary urban planning instruments. The district will also pay tribute to the businessman César Alierta, whose legacy in the field of technology and education has been key to the project’s development.
With a clear vocation to become one of the most important innovation ecosystems in Spain and Europe, the Alierta Technology District in Aragon seeks to attract talent, promote knowledge transfer and generate quality employment. Its collaborative design and its connection with other technology hubs in Aragon reinforce its role as an engine of economic and social transformation for the region.
