Innovation in hydroelectric power and resilience

During the week of October 21, IDOM participated in HYDRO25, an international forum held in Thessaloniki, Greece, in collaboration with ICOLD. The forum brought together key figures in the hydroelectric sector to discuss sustainability, energy storage, and safety in hydraulic infrastructures.

As a leader in hydroelectric engineering, IDOM presented three papers at the General Assembly.

  • Gorona del Viento hydro-wind power plant (El Hierro) – integration of renewable energy and hydraulic storage to optimize the use of water resources.
  • 700 MW reversible pumping station in Amfilochia (Greece) – strategic solution for energy management and renewable energy storage, incorporating advanced design and value engineering tools.
  • Ungrading of the Rumblar dam (Spain) – application of innovative methodologies to comply with new dam safety regulations and ensure hydrological and structural safety.

The participation of our Energy and Water department experts, Faustino Guillén and José Luis Palencia, reaffirms IDOM’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and technical excellence in hydroelectric and dam engineering projects. This positions the company as a key player in developing resilient solutions for the global energy future.
