IDOM takes part in Illuminate, sharing innovation in hydraulic modelling
Salvatore Allegra, from IDOM’s Water team, participated as a speaker at Illuminate, the international event organised by Bentley Systems, one of the leading engineering software companies and a regular provider of the tools used by IDOM in its design and modelling processes.
The event was an excellent opportunity to explore how artificial intelligence is accelerating the transformation of design processes, automating repetitive tasks and enabling engineering teams to increasingly focus on technical problem-solving and higher‑value decision-making.
During his presentation, Salvatore shared a methodology for assessing the hydraulic performance of stormwater and wastewater drainage networks using advanced hydraulic modelling tools. The case study focused on the optimisation of existing networks in the Aburrá Valley (Colombia), a region with over 4 million inhabitants, where approximately 3,000 km of networks were analysed.
IDOM delivered the project on a fully integrated basis, covering everything from topographic surveys to hydraulic scenario analyses, and working in close collaboration with multidisciplinary local teams comprising more than one hundred professionals.
This approach made it possible to assess the actual behaviour of the networks, identify critical points, and provide the client with a robust analysis and decision‑support tool, facilitating the definition and prioritisation of technical solutions based on hydraulic simulation.
