Advanced technology companies entrust us with the design of their spaces
Vicomtech has joined the MUBIL Hub ecosystem with a new building designed by IDOM. This building is intended to advance research in connected, cooperative, and automated mobility (CCAM) and advanced security and safety solutions. This infrastructure was developed in response to Vicomtech’s sustained growth in this area and the need for a dedicated space adjacent to the MUBIL Sustainable Mobility Center. The goal is to strengthen research related to future mobility models and the protection of critical infrastructure, contributing to a vision of zero emissions, zero accidents, and technological resilience.
The building is located in the Eskuzaitzeta Industrial Park. It adapts to a plot of land with complex topography through a single volume that integrates administrative and technological functions under a continuous envelope. The interior is organized into two main floors and two mezzanines connected by a single vertical core to optimize circulation and efficiency.
The main entrance opens to a spacious lobby and showroom designed as an institutional space for hosting educational activities and technology demonstrations. All levels are structured around a longitudinal courtyard that provides natural light and ventilation and creates social spaces, enhancing the work environment and establishing a more human rhythm throughout the complex.
The main laboratory is housed in an industrial-style space with vehicle access, maneuvering areas, and loading zones designed for advanced autonomous mobility research. An underground parking garage, which is directly connected to the technical rooms, complements the building.
The building’s exterior combines high-performance thermal sandwich panels with a second folded metal skin that adds texture and a contemporary aesthetic. The complex incorporates high-efficiency systems, including a photovoltaic installation for self-consumption and VRV air conditioning with heat recovery.
The architecture seeks precision, clarity, and technology, combining metal surfaces and glass to reinforce the building’s innovative character. A north-facing translucent volume serves as a visual landmark within the MUBIL Hub.
