IDOM to study the future of the South-West Madrid Rail Connection
The Ministry of Transportation and Sustainable Mobility has awarded IDOM the contract to prepare a feasibility study for a commuter rail connection between Móstoles and Navalcarnero.
The study will analyze the potential expansion of the commuter rail network along a strategic corridor for metropolitan mobility in Madrid, as well as its capacity to improve accessibility to municipalities in the southwestern part of the region.
The study will address the technical, functional, economic, and socioenvironmental feasibility of the future connection and its integration into the metropolitan transit system. The study will also analyze the project’s potential to serve surrounding municipalities such as Sevilla la Nueva, Navas del Rey, and Cenicientos.
The study will examine different route alternatives, future passenger demand, railway operation scenarios, and the socioeconomic viability of possible solutions. Additionally, the condition of infrastructure built for the original project will be evaluated for potential reuse.
This project will help identify ways to improve connectivity, strengthen public transportation, and facilitate travel in one of the fastest-growing areas of the Madrid metropolitan region.
