Proton Therapy Unit at La Paz Hospita

Spain

Madrid’s La Paz University Hospital will soon be home to an innovative proton therapy unit for which we are leading the architectural and engineering design, detailed design development, and construction supervision services.

As part of the project, we will carry out safety assessment studies and prepare the documentation required to support the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) licensing process for the new IBA Proteus One unit.

The facility forms part of the donation made by the Amancio Ortega Foundation to support the implementation of proton therapy in Spain. This initiative contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal on Good Health and Well-being, and its incorporation into the public healthcare system will have a direct impact on patients’ quality of life.

IDOM brings extensive experience in the design and delivery of proton therapy facilities, having worked on four other centres, including the proton therapy unit at Donostia University Hospital, the proton therapy unit at Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital in Santander, the Hadron Therapy and Research Center at Kutaisi International University in Georgia, and the Quirónsalud Proton Therapy Centre in Pozuelo, Madrid, which was the first proton therapy cancer treatment facility built in Spain.
