Mubil Center opens its doors with the support of IDOM

IDOM, the gateway to creating a smart and sustainable mobility ecosystem in Gipuzkoa

With the inauguration of Mubil Center, the 9,700-square-meter building located in Eskuzaitzeta (Donostia) opens its doors as a space designed to drive the development, validation, and certification of advanced mobility solutions. This center is the core of the MUBIL Hub, a larger ecosystem that will occupy 48,000 square meters and will house companies, startups and technology centers. MUBIL will employ a total of 400 people in the Eskuzaitzeta-based ecosystem, 80 of them in the MUBIL Center. With these facilities, MUBIL consolidates its position as a European benchmark in research, development and innovation in smart and sustainable mobility.

The inauguration of Mubil Center marks a milestone in sustainable mobility in Gipuzkoa

Since 2018, IDOM has accompanied MUBIL from its conception to its implementation. Since the beginning of the project, IDOM’s Competitiveness and Innovation (C&I) team has played a key role in defining the strategic model and value proposition of the hub, the realization of a sustainable business model, and the creation of strategic alliances to implement the entire ecosystem.

Eight companies have already joined the MUBIL center: Battera, Lazpiur, Battbelt, NX Technologies, Veltium, Wattson, AVL and Novac. They are joined by the technology managers of the Cidetec and EPower Labs laboratories. Likewise, the mobility R&D units of the Vicomtech, Cidetec and Tecnalia technology centers will move to Eskuzaitzeta around the MUBIL center.

The MUBIL center, which represents an investment of 25 million euros, includes three state-of-the-art testing laboratories with unique testing capabilities in Europe. These laboratories were developed with the support of C&I, which participated in the definition of the technological specialization of the center, defined and designed the technological infrastructure of these laboratories and defined their operating model. These facilities allow the validation of advanced solutions and have attracted the interest of international industry leaders such as McLaren, Stellantis, Iveco and Emotors.

The electrical storage laboratory tests cells, modules and battery systems to safety and reliability standards, analyzing performance and durability under extreme conditions such as intense vibrations and sudden shocks.

The electric traction laboratory tests motor systems, inverters and transmissions for automotive and heavy-duty transportation, analyzing performance, efficiency, durability, electrical behavior, noise and vibration in controlled environments.

The hydrogen fuel cell laboratory tests and validates power generation systems in a sealed chamber capable of simulating different temperature and humidity conditions.

However, MUBIL is not only a Hub for testing solutions with differential infrastructure, it is an innovation ecosystem. A meeting and collaboration point between companies, knowledge agents and startups, which acts as a catalyst for the development of solutions that promote a more sustainable and intelligent mobility. A concentration of knowledge and testing and innovation capabilities to address the main challenges of mobility.
