Sustainability and Corporate Architecture: IDOM shares its approach at the NAN sustainability space 2026

IDOM participated in the NAN Sustainability Space 2026, a leading event in Madrid that brought together over 110 industry professionals to discuss the role of architecture, engineering, data, and materials in addressing climate change. The conference featured national and international firms and companies, establishing sustainability as a central criterion in decision-making from the earliest stages of a project.

Borja Gómez, IDOM’s Director of Corporate Architecture, represented the company and delivered a presentation on a multidisciplinary and contextual approach to sustainable design. He argued that sustainability cannot be understood as an added layer but rather as the result of decisions deeply linked to the site, available resources, and the climatic, social, and productive conditions of each project.

Under the title Two Approaches to the Project, Borja Gómez presented two case studies, one involving renovation and the other new construction to demonstrate how strategies such as the reuse of existing structures, the use of locally sourced and renewable materials, the optimization of building envelopes, passive design, and comfort and radiation analysis can improve a building’s environmental performance from the design phase, reducing its impact throughout its entire life cycle.

The NAN sustainability space was organized into three thematic sessions and a closing roundtable, addressing key issues such as design in the face of climate change, the role of energy and technology, the circularity of materials, well-being, and biodiversity—always from a practical and measurable perspective

IDOM’s participation in this forum reinforces its commitment to responsible architecture and engineering, where sustainability is integrated across the board through interdisciplinary collaboration and the incorporation of environmental, social, and economic criteria into every project. This approach views sustainability not as an isolated goal, but as a tool for creating spaces that are more resilient, efficient, and aligned with the needs of people and the environment.
