The Lo Ruiz Tunnel project advances with IDOM’s technical supervision
The Lo Ruiz Tunnel (TLR), part of the Quilicura Interchange project, will improve connectivity in northern Santiago, Chile, providing a direct link between the General Velásquez Highway and the Américo Vespucio Norte Expressway. By alleviating congestion at one of the busiest traffic points in the Chilean capital, the project will also enhance the functionality of strategic infrastructure for metropolitan mobility.
For this project, IDOM will provide Technical Advisory and Technical Inspection of Works (ITO) services for the technological systems of the new infrastructure. The scope includes reviewing detailed engineering designs, supervising construction and system integration, and overseeing testing, commissioning, and final acceptance of the facilities.
The work covers intelligent transportation systems (ITS), electronic toll collection (ETC), telecommunications and security systems, as well as their integration with operations centers. Together, these technologies will play a fundamental role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the tunnel and facilitating its management once it becomes operational.
This new responsibility builds on IDOM’s collaboration with VÍAS CHILE S.A. since the earliest stages of the project. Over the years, IDOM’s teams have contributed to updating the engineering design, defining technical requirements, preparing bidding processes, and providing technical support during bid evaluations.
This long-standing involvement has given IDOM an in-depth understanding of the infrastructure’s operational and technological needs, providing technical continuity throughout its development. Effective integration of the different systems will be essential to ensuring the tunnel achieves the required levels of safety, availability, and efficiency, supporting its significant role in mobility across Santiago’s metropolitan area.
